The breakfast in that morning was not 1 person. Talking with two women who spoke a little the day before was a such enjoyable thing. I do not remember well but we did various information exchange what whether in trip. Around AM9:00, I left my big luggage in my room. Although the weather was clouded again, I left the hotel with the motorbike. First of all, I went to the back of the valley of Lauterbrunnen. I understood the situation of the U character valley well, in the precipice that almost both sides were steep vertically, although the bottom of the valley was flat. I turned back before the waterfall of Trummelbach. It was not possible to see from outside this waterfall at this time, because it was the rare waterfall that water streams down the inside of the rock. When you try to enter into the waterfall actually (charged), you will get close with quite a lot force and volume. |
| The mountain road that was in the bottom of a narrow valley, while gradually raising altitude, I was going to Grindelwald the land of yearning. Although it was seen the rock mountain which received snow from the back of the valley of the front, it was not "the Eiger". It was certainly the mountain next to "the Eiger" which it was called "Mettenberg" in fact. The scene in the time was described in detail, in "The valley of the Alps, village of the Alps" of Mr. Jiro Nitta, like this "I could not see the Eiger unless I were very close to Grindelwald". Although he had entered the village with mountain climbing railroad BOB at that moment, I entered with the motorbike. |
I could gradually see the East ridge of the Eiger and it swelled from the back of the mountain of the advance guard that was seen to the right hand, when I approached the village. The crest line that began to be seen had become very big, without showing the top of the mountain. So I had to give my neck to quite a lot angles. As for it there was a painful thing, because I was getting on the motorbike. It was careless ! Suddenly, the Eiger showed the whole lines of the huge north face after all. The deep impression that I saw the figure near it in the first time was difficult to express it in the word. If it does not become a word really it is this case. It was a big thing anyway, although I saw just as it, whether or not it would describe even with the tooth of the gigantic shark that stood to the earth. I always say to my friends that the Eiger is the biggest thing in the things that I have seen. I would like anyone to see the Eiger once at least.
| I arrived at the village. There were many hotels along the mainstreet in front of the station and were full of many souvenir shops or various. There was "Japanese Informations Bureau" on ground floors of 5 star hotel "Regina" in front of the station. At present, it is next to "Berner Kantonalbank" where is 50〜60m away from the station to the main street. The two woman staffs in that time were the people really friendly and being kind. I could see "Wetterhorn" the mountain of weather and could see the Obererglacier in the foot of the mountain in the back of the village as well. I thought I would go through the village and go to Meiringen through Grosse Scheidegg and go to Sustenpass, but the general vehicle was Closed from the front of "hotel Wetterhorn" of the back the village. Then, I noticed that I forgot to bring the film of a camera. I would return to Lauterbrunnen. I had to turn back to near there after all. | |
| When I went back to the hotel "Sternen" in Lauterbrunnen, it had already been daytime. Because I had had quite long conversation with "Mr.and Mrs. Tsukamoto" of Japanese, who got acquainted in "Japanese Informations Bureau". |
| I took a few films and got on astride the motorbike again, and went to
Interlaken. When I entered into Interlaken, I thought that it was like the
town which enlarged Grindelwald. There are 2 stations of SBB the Swiss National
Railways called "West" and "Ost(East)". Swiss National
Railways has got 3 names, those are SSB in German, CFF in French and FFS
in Italian. I bought a cheeseburger at a hamburger stand in front of West
station, and ate it beside the shores of Brienzer lake. It seemed to be becoming fine, because it had cleared up when I was in Grindelwald. However, it had been clouded. I would go only to Sustenpass, because it was good to turn back even halfway if weather became bad, although I might not be able to go to Gotthardpass and Nufenenpass.
